From the Black Hills to the Bike Trail, Tempe Woman Can’t Stop Pedaling

Active Aging Week is upon us yet again and there may be no better local example of aging well than Lolly Skillman, biker extraordinaire. The 83-year-old dynamo has biked across the country, hikes and bikes the Black Hills of South Dakota each year and is rarely found sitting down. In fact, she bikes twice per week, 20 miles each time, on top of her other exploits.

Skillman, who lives at Friendship Village Tempe, an area senior living community, says retirement has allowed her to stay fit and active, pursuing her dreams in new ways.

“We’re big believers in the various dimensions of wellness, which of course includes physicality,” said Cole Marvin, executive director of Friendship Village. “Lolly embodies that as much as anyone, and we’re proud to have her as one of the many faces of active aging here at the community.”
