Friendship Village Neighbors Share Unique Connections to Arizona State University
As classes begin winding up again, many students eagerly look toward graduation. But for one group of Tempe seniors, graduating from Arizona State University isn’t on the horizon.
Instead, these local retirement-aged seniors, who have a love for academics, are taking advantage of their proximity to campus. All three individuals live at Friendship Village Tempe, and find themselves spending a great deal of their free time at Arizona State University.
- Z.A. “Zeke” Prust is a former Arizona State University professor who spent countless hours inputting his collection of photos and notes into his sixth edition of Graphic Communications: The Printed Image. His book is currently being used in classrooms on campus, and will soon come out in the form of an e-book.
- Ruth Kearns has a unique passion for bugs. In fact, she has a degree in entomology, but never had the opportunity to utilize it in her career. Now that she’s retired, she uses her knowledge and love for bugs by volunteering each week at Arizona State University, cataloging thousands of beetles and bugs for the entomology collection.
- Matt Hassett is a part-time mathematics professor at Arizona State University. Even though he is retired, he can’t help but spend his free time in the classroom teaching students about actuarial studies. Hassett also specializes in writing textbooks and study guides for actuarial students.
